This spoken-word showcase features stories, both old and new, of incredible Northern people. From our Northumberland heroes like Grace Darling, braving the raging North sea, to the local legends like your Mam, who manages to get everything done and still keep a level head. WE ARE NORTHERN is a conversation.

Over the past few years, Lizzie has been breaking down the pieces that make up Northern identity, and the contradiction in all those parts. Leading up to NOVUM, Lizzie engaged with communities around Tyneside to learn about what they thought Northerness was, and which tales they wanted to tell. WE ARE NORTHERN is the story of a region united by something intangible. But more than anything, it’s a conversation about what makes us who we are. We are more than. WE. ARE. NORTHERN.
