Dominoes by Station House Opera is #NOVUM26 major headline and finale moment – a monumental, participatory artwork culminating in a giant domino run through Newcastle city centre on Sunday 9th August. It is made up of thousands of breezeblocks.

Dominoes takes place in Newcastle city centre, and the route runs from east to west; it starts near Newcastle City Library and will culminate at Newcastle Helix site. It will go along streets, into and out of venues, through public spaces, occasionally disappearing and then resurfacing, sometimes pausing for monumental sculptural builds.

From 2.30pm, you can walk the full 2.5km route and see thousands of dominoes lined up ready for the big moment. The chain reaction begins promptly at 4.30pm.

With the exception of a small number of indoor locations that aren’t open to the public, you can watch the dominoes fall from anywhere along the route. The map highlights accessible viewing areas and key locations to help you choose the perfect spot.

Yes, there are two ways to get involved with Dominoes:

• As a spectator – follow the route and experience the moment as it unfolds.
• As a volunteer – we are recruiting 300+ volunteers to help bring Dominoes Newcastle to life, with a range of roles available.

The Dominoes Newcastle route is approximately 2.5km long. From 2.30pm on Sunday 9 August, you’re invited to walk the full route, explore thousands of dominoes lined up across the city and find your perfect viewing spot before the spectacular chain reaction begins promptly at 4.30pm.

No. The domino chain reaction is designed to be experienced from selected viewing locations rather than by running alongside it. As it travels through streets, public spaces and inside buildings before reappearing, it isn’t possible to follow the fall from start to finish. We recommend choosing one or two viewing spots along the route, then making your way to the finale area to experience the spectacular ending.

However you can walk the full route from 2.30pm on the day ahead of the fall.

We’ve reserved a number of accessible viewing areas at key points along the Dominoes Newcastle route for disabled visitors. These locations have been chosen to offer great views of the chain reaction and are clearly marked on the downloadable route map. We recommend checking the map in advance to help plan your visit and arriving in good time before the fall begins at 4.30pm.
