Giant bubbles. Giant swings. Mud kitchens. Face painting. Theatre. Aerial performers. Brilliantly bonkers inventions. Games. Colouring. Glitter. And loads more. You’re invited to play out with us!

For one weekend only, Newcastle Civic Centre transforms into a giant outdoor playground packed with free performances, hands-on activities and creative adventures for all ages.

THE PROGRAMME

 

In the Quadrangle at Newcastle Civic Centre:

 

Right to Play

By Pif Paf

Saturday 11am-4pm & Sunday 11am-4pm

A playful adventure playground packed with mud kitchens, den building, climbing, balancing and hands-on creative play. Build, explore, imagine and play together.

Drop in.

 

Festival Face Painting

By Not Just A Pretty Facepaint

Saturday 11am-5pm & Sunday 11am-4pm

Festival faces at the ready! Add a splash of colour, sparkle and glitter before heading off to explore #NOVUM26.

String & Strong’s Big Gameathon

By Fully Booked Theatre

Both days: 11.15am-11.35am & 4pm-4.20pm

Big games. Silly challenges. Endless fun. Join String and Strong for a playful walkabout adventure full of laughter, movement and mayhem.

The Swings

By All or Nothing

Both days: 11am – 11.15am (BSL interpreted),12.30pm-12.45pm, 2pm-2.15pm & 3.30pm-3.345pm (BSL interpreted)

A giant swing set meets breath taking aerial performance. Watch incredible performers soar high above you before taking your own turn on the swings.

The Turkey & The Caterpillar

Both days: 11.30am,1pm & 3pm (All performances are BSL interpreted)

A joyful, funny family show celebrating friendship, transformation and having the courage to be yourself.

Once Upon a Wall

By Fully Booked Theatre

Both days: 12noon & 2.30pm (All performances are BSL interpreted)

Humpty Dumpty as you’ve never seen him before. Expect street dance, audience participation and one egg with very big dreams.

Gigantic Bubble Fun

Both days: 2.30pm-3pm

Prepare for a riot of giant bubbles, colourful performances and plenty of chances to make your own.

Colour Outside the Lines

Go big, get colourful and help create a giant collaborative artwork by colouring huge outdoor blocks throughout the weekend.

Myths and Legends

Become an inventor for the day! Dream up brilliantly bonkers inventions that make everyday life more fun, solve tiny annoyances or simply make people smile.

Whether you stay for twenty minutes or spend the whole day with us, there’s something happening around every corner.

Play. Swing. Bubble. Make. Dance. Colour. Invent. Repeat.

What to Expect

  • A giant outdoor playground filled with free performances, hands-on activities and creative fun.
  • Giant swings, giant bubbles, mud kitchens, face painting, colouring, inventing and more.
  • Spectacular aerial performances, theatre and playful walkabout entertainment.
  • Drop-in activities and scheduled performances throughout the day.
  • Stay for 20 minutes or the whole day; there’s always something to discover.

GOOD TO KNOW

  • Saturday: 11am–5pm & Sunday: 11am–4pm (performance times vary).
  • Free to attend; drop in and come and go as you please.
  • Ideal for primary-aged children and families, plus older children who enjoy creative play and performance.
  • This is an outdoor event, so dress for the weather.
  • Most activities are participatory, with parents and carers supervising younger children.
  • Wheelchair and pushchair accessible.
  • The Civic Centre Café will be open throughout, serving food and drinks.
  • Toilets, including an accessible toilet, are available inside Newcastle Civic Centre.
  • Nearby parking: Civic Centre Car Park (NE1 8PB), College Street Car Park (NE1 8JJ) and NCP John Dobson Street (NE1 8HL), all with Blue Badge spaces.
