RIVKALA

Sunday 11th August 2024
Council Chamber, Newcastle Civic Centre, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 8QH

Rivkala, meaning ‘to connect’, is an emerging neo-soul vocalist, songwriter, bandleader and pianist, and winner of Drake Music's Emergent Artist of 2023.

Raised in Manchester on jazz, funk, disco, psych rock, Klezmer and soul, her writing is characteristically flavoured by bass-driven grooves and socially poignant storytelling. As both a solo performer and bandleader of a 6-piece outfit, she's spent the past year building momentum and a following through gigs across the North, including festivals such as Kelburn Garden Party and Northern Pride, and headlining legendary North East venues Hoochie Coochie, The Jazz Cafe, and The Cluny.

2024 began with an exciting full-band performance at the home of London Symphony Orchestra, St Luke’s, and a booking for two sets at The Great Escape in May 2024, alongside other NE festivals including Exit Music and A Stone’s Throw, plus a Manchester hometown debut in the pipeline.
