The images captured by Andrew Brooks while exploring sites and rarely-seen Newcastle locations will be displayed in an exhibition in the Civic Centre Gardens and at the front of The Great North Museum: Hancock during NOVUM Festival, every day all day on Thursday 8th, Friday 9th, Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th August.

The venue and festival site are wheelchair and pushchair accessible.
Please note that outdoors some surfaces will be uneven, and some activity takes place on the grass.
There will be a break out / quiet space available.
Staff and Volunteers will be available to direct you.
Working in partnership with Curated Place since 2008, Andrew Brooks is a photographer, film maker and digital artist based on the edge of the Peak District. His photographs capture landscapes, cities and architecture in vivid, atmospheric detail. Through this work he shares the stories of these places, capturing their histories in ways that connect with our modern world.
Andrew Brooks has exhibited his Secret Cities exhibitions across the UK and the Netherlands and delivers workshops and talks where he shares his techniques for documenting places and landscapes.

Creating original written pieces to accompany’s Secret Citiy: Newcastle images, Jasmine Plumpton is a poet and writer facilitator from South Shields.
She is in her final year of study for an AHRC-funded PhD in Creative Writing at Newcastle University.
Her practice-led research explores the interplay between poetry, photography, and trauma.

A partnership project bringing together Curated Place’s curatorial team, one of the UK’s leading digital artists, a writer, the unique and undiscovered places and spaces in Newcastle and the most important partner - You!
Book today to take part in a workshop with photographer Andrew Brooks including a tour to some secret Newcastle locations.
Learn camera skills from smartphone upwards and play an important part of the NOVUM 2024 festival.
Places are free but must be booked in advance.
In this short, free to access session you will be guided to use photography to experience Newcastle in a new way, exploring memory and identity - looking at places from industrial ruins to underground tunnels, abandoned sites and prohibited places - you’ll be inspired to tell stories through photography.

No previous experience is required
Workshops are accessible - if you have specific access requirements please include details when you book and one of the team will be in touch.
All workshop participants need a camera so be sure to bring one with you - the camera on your smart phone is perfect, or bring whichever camera you like to use most.

This is a licensed venue and any under 14s must be accompanied by an adult.
